MADISON, Wis. — Two Wisconsin teens have been charged after an 11-year-old girl suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, Madison residents Perion Carreon, 19, and a 16-year-old boy are facing first-degree intentional homicide and attempted homicide charges in the Aug. 11 shooting of Anisa Scott, who died two days later at an area hospital. The 16-year-old was charged as an adult.
WMTV reported that the shooting occurred shortly before noon Aug. 11 near East Washington and Lexington avenues in Madison. Scott, a passenger in a vehicle driven by a man who was taking care of her, was struck as occupants of another vehicle fired at them, Madison police said. Police believe the the driver, not the girl, was the person they were trying to hit, WISC reported.

Scott, who was shot in the head, was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, authorities said. She died Aug. 13, Madison police confirmed in a Facebook post Aug. 13.
"The men and women of the MPD would like to offer her family and friends heartfelt condolences, and to let them know that our Violent Crime Unit detectives, and other MPD personnel, are working very hard to find those responsible for this senseless murder," the post read.
Carreon and the 16-year-old were arrested last week and appeared in court Tuesday, the Journal reported. Carreon is being held on $2.1 million bail, while the teen is being held on $1.5 million bail, according to the newspaper.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities may make more arrests in the case, WISC reported.
