OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Zoo is celebrating the arrival of not one but four bundles of joy.
According to KOCO-TV, the attraction announced Friday that African lioness Dunia – a first-time mom – and partner Hubert welcomed four healthy cubs on Sept. 26. The litter, made up of one male and three females, marks the first born at the zoo in 15 years, the staff wrote in a Facebook post.
The zoo said the newborns “have already hit important milestones” and “will be gradually introduced to the rest of the pride.” They will stay behind the scenes until they receive their first vaccines and become acclimated to their habitat, the post added.
“This birth is vital to the African lion population and has been a culmination of years of hard work, dedication and commitment by the Oklahoma City Zoo and its supporters, the African Lion SSP (Species Survival Plan) and the zoo’s carnivore care team,” the zoo’s carnivore curator, Tyler Boyd, said in a statement obtained by KOCO.
