BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The boyfriend of a 22-year-old woman found dismembered last month in her New York City apartment has been charged in connection with her death.
Justin Williams, 24, was arrested Monday and faces second-degree murder and concealment of a human corpse charges, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced during a news conference.
The remains of Williams’ girlfriend, D’Asia Johnson. were found in her sixth-floor apartment on Linwood Avenue on Sept. 21 after officers were called to conduct a wellness check. They found her remains crammed into two suitcases inside the residence.
According to NBC News, Gonazalez confirmed that Johnson went home after work on Aug. 21 and “never exited the apartment again.”
Investigators believe that Williams, who had been dating Johnson for several years, stabbed her five times in her torso and four times in her back during the early-morning hours of Aug. 22, the network reported.
Meanwhile, prosecutors alleged that Williams dismembered Johnson’s body, stuffed her remains into the suitcases and lived in the apartment for a month, using cleaning products and towels to mask the smell of decomposition, CBS News reported.
“While we can’t erase the tragic and cruel death of D’Asia Johnson, we are fully committed to bringing this defendant to justice,” Gonzalez said during a Monday news conference.
Williams was ordered held without bail and is slated to appear in court next on Jan. 25, 2023. If convicted, he faces as many as 25 years in prison, NBC News reported.
