Coronavirus: Disney delays reopening Disneyland, Disney California Adventure indefinitely

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Disney halted plans Wednesday for the phased reopening of its flagship California theme parks, originally scheduled to begin welcoming guests again on July 17.

The indecision affects both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure, the Deseret News reported.

The company said in a statement that the state of California will not even consider reissuing theme park reopening guidelines until after July 4, and the logistics involved with reactivating operations involve too many variables to set a timetable.

“Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials,” the company stated. “Once we have a clearer understanding of when guidelines will be released, we expect to be able to communicate a reopening date.”

According to CNBC, the lack of theme park guidelines will not affect Downtown Disney District, still slated to reopen July 9 because the state already approved that area’s reopening guidelines.

Disneyland said it plans to negotiate with employees and cast members on when to return to the park, the Deseret News reported.

“We thank our cast and guests for their patience during this unprecedented time while we await approval from government officials,” the company said.
