Daniel Radcliffe, made famous for playing the title role in the “Harry Potter” movie franchise, is set to take on the leading role in “Weird: The Al Yankovic story.”
Roku, which is producing the movie, announced that Radcliffe would be taking on the role in the upcoming comedy biopic and that production would begin in early February. This will be Roku’s first original biopic and will be available to stream exclusively on The Roku Channel, Variety reported.
In its press release, Roku promised the movie would “hold nothing back, looking at every facet of Yankovic’s life, from his meteoric rise to fame with early hits like “Eat It” and “Like a Surgeon” to his torrid celebrity love affairs and famously depraved lifestyle.”
The film is produced by Tango and Funny Or Die, which made a parody “Weird Al” biopic starring Aaron Paul in 2013, The New York Times reported.
In a tweet, Al Yankovic simply said, “So…I’m making a movie.” In the Roku press release, Yankovic is quoted as saying, “When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule.”
Radcliffe will next appear in “The Lost City” with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, NBC News reported.
