PENSACOLA, Fla. — A Florida man is accused of driving recklessly and towing an inner tube that killed an 18-year-old man who was on it, according to officials.
Pensacola police announced Friday that they arrested Joseph Brooks Squirewell, 20, in connection with an incident at Maritime Park on April 30 that killed 18-year-old Christian Garner, according to WEAR-TV.
WEAR-TV says Squirewell was allegedly driving a pickup truck that towed an inner tube from the bank of the pond in the area and into the parking lot. Garner was on the inner tube and he landed on the pavement, dying instantly.
In a report WEAR-TV obtained, the truck Squirewell was driving was going too fast which caused Garner to be thrown from the inner tube. Police obtained camera surveillance of the area and spoke with witnesses who tried to get him to slow down. The report stated Squirewell was doing “donuts” in the parking lot, almost running someone over before towing the inner tube.
Squirewell was booked into jail on recommended charges of culpable negligence manslaughter, according to the Pensacola News Journal. He has since been released on a $25,000 bond.
