Ford adding 6,200 new union jobs in Ohio, Michigan and Missouri

DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford announced Thursday that they will be adding 6,200 new union jobs in Ohio, Michigan and Missouri.

Ford says in a news release that they along with the United Auto Workers union will be adding 6,200 new U.S. manufacturing jobs in the Midwest and in addition, will be converting about 3,000 temporary jobs into permanent full-time positions along with providing health care benefits on the first day of employment for hourly employees. Ford says they are expecting to create about 74,000 new jobs across the country by the end of 2026.

The plan is to revamp the three factories to build new electric and gas-powered cars including a newer version of the Mustang Coupe, according to CNBC. The new investments are projected to cost Ford about $3.7 billion.

“We’re investing in American jobs and our employees to build a new generation of incredible Ford vehicles and continue our Ford+ transformation,” said Ford President and CEO Jim Farley in a news release. “Transforming our company for the next era of American manufacturing requires new ways of working, and together with UAW leadership, we are leading the way and moving fast to make improvements to benefits for our hourly employees and working conditions for our factory teams.”

In addition to added benefits for hourly employees, Ford says they are also working on improving “the workplace experience” and will do so by adding better access to healthy food, EV chargers in company parking lots and better lighting in parking lots,

The breakdown for the Midwest, according to Ford:

  • Ohio will get about $1.5 billion investment and 1,800 new union jobs
  • Michigan will get about $2 billion investment and 3,200 new union jobs
  • Missouri will get about $95 million investment and 1,110 new union jobs
