CINCINNATI — An Indiana mother accused of abandoning her young, nonverbal son over state lines earlier this year pleaded guilty to child endangerment.
Heather Adkins appeared in court Monday to enter the guilty plea for leaving her son in Colerain Township, WXIX reported.
Adkins was charged after investigators said she took her son from Shelbyville, Indiana, and drove him 75 miles to Ohio, where she abandoned him, as we reported at the time. At the time, police in Colerain, Ohio, said they found the child walking alone.
Prosecutors said that Adkins drove to Tennessee from Indiana in February to drop off two of her three children with a friend, and on the way back stopped and “basically kicked the kid out of the car,” WXIX reported.
Heather Adkins just pled guilty to Child Endangerment (a reduced charge) for abandoning her 5-year-old autistic son in Colerain Twp. She’ll be sentenced on Sep. 28th. She’s facing a max of 3 years in prison, or Judge Branch could decide to give her 5 years probation. @FOX19 pic.twitter.com/ZMZQCUka5x

Adkins was later arrested more than an hour away in Georgetown, Kentucky, WLWT reported.
When Adkins was arrested, she gave officers a fake name, as we reported at the time. Officers said that she admitted to abandoning her son, but changed her story multiple times.
Adkins will be sentenced on Sept. 28, WXIX reported. Potential sentences range from five years of probation to three years in prison.
