Update:
July 6, 2022, 12:05 p.m. ET: According to The Associated Press, former White House counsel Pat Cipollone has agreed to an interview with the House Jan. 6 committee.
Original story:
The House Select Committee to Investigate the Jan. 6 Attack on the United States Capitol announced that its next public hearing will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET.
The committee did not announce which witnesses — if any — may appear or what the focus of the hearing may be.
The hearing will be the seventh public hearing on the attack that happened as members of Congress met to certify the results of the 2020 presidential election.
The committee announced last week that it had subpoenaed former White House Counsel Pasquale “Pat” Cipollone for deposition testimony.
Cipollone faces a Wednesday deadline to give sworn testimony before the committee.
“The Select Committee’s investigation has revealed evidence that Mr. Cipollone repeatedly raised legal and other concerns about President Trump’s activities on January 6th and in the days that preceded,” a statement from the committee read.
“While the Select Committee appreciates Mr. Cipollone’s earlier informal engagement with our investigation, the committee needs to hear from him on the record, as other former White House counsels have done in other congressional investigations. Any concerns Mr. Cipollone has about the institutional prerogatives of the office he previously held are clearly outweighed by the need for his testimony.”
Other witnesses have testified that Cipollone was with former President Donald Trump during the day on Jan. 6, 2021, as protesters stormed the Capitol.
Jan. 6 committee vice chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said Sunday that the committee could make a criminal referral to the Justice Department for Trump.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing concerning the attack on the Capitol.
