DORR TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Duke cousins, Bo and Luke, might have been proud of this one.
A Michigan driver did a “Dukes of Hazzard” style jump over a freeway bridge in Michigan on Thursday, according to the Michigan State Police.
The driver of a black Chevrolet Impala, a 25-year-old man from Kalamazoo, was driving south of U.S. 131 when his vehicle left the road and drove up an embankment at about 2:05 p.m. EST, MLive.com reported. The vehicle then went airborne and hit a road sign before landing on the other side of a bridge, the website reported.
The man was taken to an area hospital for a medical evaluation and a blood draw after troopers saw signs that he was intoxicated, police told MLive.com. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening, police said.
Other drivers came to the man’s aid in the snowy ditch after his car stopped, WLS-TV reported.
“Everybody decided to just come out and help,” Dante Johnson told the television station. “That could’ve been the last day he saw his child. To be able to walk away from that and see your kid, it’s a blessing.”
A video posted on Facebook by Jessica Sinclair, who was driving in the area with her mother, shows the Chevrolet on its side. Sinclair noted in the post that they saw “someone fully ‘Dukes of Hazard’ jumped their car up and over the 142nd bridge.”
