Recall alert: 2.5M Ford vehicles recalled for brake, latch issues

Ford has issued recalls involving 2.5 million vehicles because of a door latch issue and a brake fluid leak.

More than 2.1 million Ford cars, SUVs and vans are being recalled because the door latches can malfunction, allowing the doors to open while the vehicle is moving, The Associated Press reported.

This isn’t the first time the company’s door latches have been recalled. Owners can look at the latch date codes and enter them online to see if they were repaired under previous recalls and if additional work is needed. The vehicles can be repaired at dealers, the AP reported.

The recall involves the following Ford models:

  • Focus
  • Fusion
  • Fiesta
  • Escape
  • C-Max
  • Lincoln MKZ
  • Lincoln MKC
  • Mustang
  • Transit Connect van

In addition, the company is recalling 344,000 F-150 pickups to repair a fluid leak from the brake master cylinder, which has caused seven low-speed crashes. Depending on how much fluid leaks, the front brakes may not be able to stop the vehicle correctly. The rear breaks will function but it will be slower to stop the truck, the AP reported.

Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder and brake booster on affected trucks.
