Recall alert: Diabetes medication recall expanded

The Food and Drug Administration has announced the expansion of a diabetes medication recall.

Nostrum Laboratories has recalled a specific lot of Metformin HCL extended-release tablets, USP 750mg (generic equivalent to Glucophage tablets).

The medication has levels of nitrosamine above the limit set by the FDA.

The recall was first announced in November.

The recall affects bottles of 100 tablets with NDC 29033-056-01. The medication has lot number MET200501 and an expiration date of 7/2022.

Metformin HCL extended-release tablets are prescribed to help improve blood glucose control in addition to diet and exercise.

If you have the affected lot of medication, you are instructed to return them to the place of purchase and talk to your doctor for a different treatment option.
