Sister of actor Jamie Foxx, former Global Down Syndrome Foundation envoy DeOndra Dixon dead at 36

DeOndra Dixon, the younger sister of actor Jamie Foxx and the 2011 Global Down Syndrome Foundation ambassador, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2020, at the age of 36.
“My heart is shattered into a million pieces... my beautiful loving sister Deondra has transitioned...,” Foxx wrote on Instagram on Monday, confirming his sister’s passing.
“I say transitioned because she will always be alive... anyone who knew my sis... knew that she was a bright light...,” the Oscar-winning actor added.
Born Sept. 6, 1984, in Dallas, Texas, Dixon began a nine-year run participating in the Special Olympics in the sixth grade. After graduating from high school, she moved to California to live with Foxx and the rest of her family in 2002, People reported.
She was the daughter of Foxx’s mother, Louise Annette Dixon, and his stepfather, George Dixon, Entertainment Tonight reported.
According to her profile on the Global Down Syndrome Foundation website, Dixon was “born to dance.”
“My brother has given me a chance to do some special things. I danced in his video ‘Blame It.’ I’ve danced on stage at some of his concerts all over the country. And guess what? I’ve danced at the Grammy’s!” Dixon wrote.
“Lots of kids with Down syndrome never get a chance to shine or chase their dreams. Each one has something to offer and each one has a dream. Please help me and my family to advocate for so many beautiful and brilliant children with Down syndrome who’ve been neglected. Together we will make dreams come true,” she added.
Foxx, who was 16 when Dixon was born, fell in love instantly with his baby sister, People reported.
“We weren’t trippin' on the fact that she had Down syndrome,” he told the magazine in November 2011. “We were trippin' on the fact that she was cute. She was this little chocolate ball.”
