NEW YORK — A New York City man died early Saturday after he fell from the top of a moving subway train, police said.
According to the New York City Police Department, the 32-year-old man died while “subway surfing” as the J train crossed the Williamsburg Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan, WPIX reported.
The incident happened at about 4:30 a.m. EDT, according to WABC.
Subway surfing is defined as a person who rides on the top of a moving train.
The man was on top of the train and lost his balance, falling onto the tracks, according to WPIX. The man was run over by the train and was found unresponsive by police officers, the television station reported.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, WABC reported.
Service on the J line was impacted for several hours, but normal service resumed at about 6:45 a.m. EDT, WPIX reported.
The man’s name was being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, police said.
