UVALDE, Texas — Actor Matthew McConaughey visited his hometown of Uvalde on Friday, three days after an 18-year-old gunman killed 19 students and two teachers at the small Texas town’s Robb Elementary School, KSAT-TV reported.

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, shared images of McConaughey’s visit with both students and teachers.

“This week was a solemn reminder that evil exists in the world, but we will never let it break us. We’ll unite to be an even more powerful reminder that love never fails & together we can change things,” Gonzalez wrote in a Friday evening tweet .
“Appreciate Uvalde native Matthew McConaughey helping us heal. #UvaldeUnited,” Gonzales added.

The shooter, identified as Salvador Ramos, opened fire on a fourth-grade classroom and barricaded himself inside, spending more than an hour inside Robb Elementary before Border Patrol tactical officers breached the room and killed him.

“As you all are aware there was another mass shooting today, this time in my home town of Uvalde, Texas. Once again, we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us,” McConaughey wrote in a statement shared Tuesday afternoon via Twitter .

The “Dallas Buyers Club” star went on to state that “whichever side of the aisle we may stand on, we all know we can do better. We must do better.”
