Through the roof: Tree grows in kitchen of Florida home listed for sale

GULFPORT, Fla. — Sure, a tree grows in Brooklyn. But an oak grows in the kitchen of a west-central Florida home that is on the market.

It’s not a treehouse. It’s a four-bedroom, three-bath waterfront home in Gulfport in Pinellas County, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The 2,874-square-foot home, located at 5122 31st Ave S., sits on a 1.03-acre lot, according to Realtor.com.

The listing price might have you shaking like a leaf -- unless you think $899,000 is not a price through the roof.

That’s what makes this home unique. The giant oak tree sits in front of the kitchen, with its top going through the roof.

Perfect for families with dogs, perhaps.

The tree is real, real estate agent Stacey Purcell of Gulfport Realty told the Times. The home has a two-level roof and the treetop sprouts from the lower one. Purcell said that insurance companies may insist on the removal of the tree in order to close the sale.

“It is an issue,” Purcell told the newspaper. “Without that tree I’d have that house sold already.”

The home last sold for $557,102 in May 2016, according to Realtor.com.
