Troy High School sophmore awarded $10,000 Vax-2-School scholarship

TROY — Troy High School sophomore Kellen Miller didn’t believe he had won the $10,000 scholarship until his mother, Liz Miller, showed him on Twitter, according to a release.

On Thursday afternoon, Kellen Miller was one of 30 winners of the Ohio Department of Health and Ohio Lottery’s Vax-2-school scholarship.

He was the second winner from Troy within 48 hours. After hearing a student from Troy had already won, Liz Miller figured their chances were “out the window”.

“What are the odds? We thought it was never going to happen,” Liz Miller said in a release.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, “Ohio Vax-2-School is a public outreach campaign consisting of a series of statewide drawings to increase awareness of the availability and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines and provide incentives to younger Ohioans to get a COVID-19 vaccination.”

Liz Miller said the decision to get her son vaccinated was in the hopes of keeping in him the classroom and in sports; he plays football and basketball for the Trojans.

Kellen Miller does plan to continue his education when he graduates in two years and study physical therapy, according to the release.
