Two loaded guns found in the backpacks of local high school students

HARRISON TWP. — Two students at Horizon Science Academy high school were found with loaded firearms on them today at school, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to Horizon Science Academy high school just after noon on report of a firearm being located on school grounds, the sheriff’s office spokesperson said in the media release.

A student notified staff that there was a gun on school property. School staff identified and found two students that each had loaded guns in their backpacks.

“School staff took all of the necessary action to keep both students and staff safe once they identified that there was a threat,” the spokesperson said.

The two students have been detained for questioning.

There is no ongoing threat to the school, the spokesperson said.

The incident remains under investigation.
