Vacant downtown Dayton skyscraper part of $31M historic preservation tax credit

DAYTON — The Grant-Deneau Tower in Dayton was one of 40 historic buildings to receive the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit.

The Ohio Development Services Agency awarded $31,204,165 on Wednesday for the rehabilitation of the historic buildings, according to a press release.

The 22-story Grant-Deneau Tower, located at 40 W. Fourth St., will receive a tax credit of $3,875,000 to go towards its total rehabilitation project cost of $38,794,598.

Vacant since 2016, the building will hold commercial offices on 11 floors with the remainder being filled with 100 one and two-bedroom apartments.

The tower was recently listed on the National Register as an important part of the story of Dayton’s transformation in the middle of the 20th century, the release stated.

All the projects in the state together are expected to leverage approximately $347 million in private investments in nine communities.
