WAYNESVILLE — A Waynesville McDonald’s employee was recognized by the company and the city for his act of kindness while on the job.
17-year-old Wyatt Jones was working when a mother had forgotten her wallet and was unable to pay for her car full of kids' dinners.
Jones took out his own wallet and paid her bill.
“She just looked like she was having a bad day and needed help. That’s…all, really," explained Jones.
That mother, Brittany Reed, was blown away by his kindness and took to Facebook to applaud his good deed.
Her original post has been shared more than half a million times since it was posted.
“Literally we’ve gotten messages from Ireland, india…somewhere in the uk, all over Canada, it really has reached, like, everywhere," said Reed.
Reed started a fundraiser for Jones after she learned that he was working to save money for a car.
The GoFundMe campaign has raised well over $30,000 dollars.
“It’s a lot to take in, it is," said Jones.
The company honored Jones Wednesday with a ceremony where they were joined by Waynesville’s Police Chief and City Manager.
The two presented Jones with a proclamation and declared the day Wyatt Jones Day in Waynesville.
