2018 on track to be one of the warmest in years for Miami Valley

It may be hard to believe when you think to just three months ago when we couldn’t seem to escape snow in April, but overall, 2018 is on track to be one of the warmest in years for the Miami Valley.

According to data from the National Weather Service, Dayton has already recorded 10 days with temperatures reaching 90 degrees or warmer. While that may not seem like many, consider the fact that we are only just over two weeks into summer.

In a typical year, Dayton has an average of between four to seven days with 90 degree plus temperatures. If you ask many in the Miami Valley if they remember a really hot summer, chances are they will recall the summer of 2012. Certainly, 2012 was one of the hottest on record. By this time in 2012, we already had 15 days with temperatures over 90 degrees. In fact, the temperature had already topped 100 degrees by the end of June.

While this year is on track to be a hot one, 2018 still has yet to record a temperature of 100 degrees or higher with a break from the heat and humidity in the forecast for the first full weekend of July. But we still have a long summer to go and more heat is in the forecast for next week.
