Wright-Patterson Air Force Base anticipates potentially dangerous, excessive heat temperatures for the first in-person Air Force Marathon in three years, according to a media advisory from Wright-Patt’s spokesperson.

The 26th annual Air Force Marathon will begin on Saturday at 7:30a.m. and host thousands of spectators, local government officials, sponsors and volunteers, the spokesperson said.
The base warns participants of the above normal warm temperatures expected for tomorrows race. The spokesperson said the heat could adversely affect some of the runners.
A “mass casualty” event may be declared if extreme weather conditions are present.
Declaring this type of event allows the local hospital network know that the base hospital has exceeded the amount of people they can treat on site and will transport patients to local hospitals, the release said.

Wright-Patt assures participants their safety is of the utmost importance and is always their highest priority, according to the spokesperson.
