Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to hold active shooter training Wednesday

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will be going into full lock down for a scheduled active shooter exercise on Wednesday, Aug. 18.

The Installation Command Center will issue notifications through a “Giant Voice” and other communication modes that will alert those on base that the installation is being locked down, according to the 88th Air Base Wing Facebook page.

Everyone on the installation will be told to take immediate action and treat the mock scenario as a real-world occurrence.

“Active-shooter incidents can happen very quickly. Exercises and being prepared to take appropriate action can save lives,” says Garth Freund, 88th Air Base Wing exercise planner.

Communities surrounding the installation may hear sirens or the “Giant Voice” and will be advised that it is part of the training exercise, unless otherwise notified, according to Facebook.

People who use Kittyhawk Pharmacy may experience delays in service while the exercise is in progress, according to Facebook.

Other potential impacts from the exercise include traffic backups, blocked roadways, increased security, and alert sirens.
