UD Flyers beat No. 11 Gonzaga

Khari Price made two free throws with 4.6 seconds to play to ice an 84-79 Dayton Flyers upset win over 11th-ranked Gonzaga in the first round of the Maui Invitational.

Trailing by 14 points with 1:36 to play in the first half, UD went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 9 by the half.

After shooting just 32 percent from the field in the first half, the Flyers came out hot in the second half and buried 8 of 13 three-pointers in coming back to take as much as a 9-point lead late in the game.

However, Kevin Pangos tried to put Gonzaga on his back, scoring 27 points, including 5 in the final minute that made it a one possession game.

The Flyers made enough free throws down the stretch to improve to 5-0.

In addition to Jordan Sibert's career high 23 points the Flyers got a big lift off the bench from freshman Kendall Pollard who scored his first points as a collegian, all 9 coming in a short stretch early in the second half.

"It is a pleasure to be around guys who just won't quit, "said Archie Miller afterwards. "The final minutes we had guys step up and make plays in-bounds vs. the press, and Dyshawn Pierre canning 4 straight free throws in the final 22 seconds was huge."

Dayton will now play Baylor, a 93-77 winner over Chaminade in the semifinals, Tuesday at 9:30pm EST.

The game will be broadcast on 95.7 FM and AM 1290 NewsTalk Radio WHIO.
