NEW YORK — Major League Soccer is suspending their season for 30 days due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, the league confirmed in a statement Thursday morning.

Matches will be suspended immediately while the league assesses the impact of COVID-19, according to the league statement.

Both Ohio MLS teams, FC Cincinnati and Columbus Crew SC have had games cancelled starting this weekend. FC Cincinnati was slated to play D.C. United Saturday evening at Nippert Stadium in what was supposed to be FCC’s home opener.
MLS is suspending its season immediately until further notice due to coronavirus, a source with knowledge of the situation tells Sports Illustrated.

The Crew were also scheduled to play a home match Saturday afternoon against Real Salt Lake.
MLS becomes the latest league to suspend their season indefinitely. Wednesday, the National Basketball Association suspended their season due to the outbreak and that Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for the virus.
Reports Thursday indicate a second Jazz player, Donovan Mitchell, also tested positive.
