COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association has cancelled the remaining winter sport tournaments as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

In a media release issued Tuesday afternoon, OHSAA said the winter sports of basketball, wrestling and ice hockey will not be completed, because Ohio schools are expected to be closed for several weeks.

The winter sport tournaments were all scheduled to be held in Columbus this month, but were postponed indefinitely March 12. These were the first OHSAA cancellations since a few events were cancelled during World War II, officials said in the release.

Spring sports remain postponed and a mandatory no-contact period remains in effect through April 5 for all school-sponsored sports.
