DAYTON — The Dayton Flyers (27-2 and 16-0) climbed to third in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll released Monday afternoon.

With two victories last week, Dayton continued their best start in school history and extended their winning streak to 18 games.

This is the fourth consecutive week the Flyers have climbed within the top 10 of the poll and is the 14th straight week the Flyers have appeared in the poll.
Dayton’s jump in the rankings was helped by a loss by Baylor Saturday, who was previously ranked second. Baylor lost on the road to TCU 75-72 Saturday and fell to fourth in the poll today.

Rounding out the top five were No. 1 Kansas, No. 2 Gonzaga, and No. 5 San Diego State.
This is Dayton’s highest ranking since the 1955-56 season that saw the Flyers ranked third at the end of the season. Dayton also climbed as high as second that same year, but has never reached first in the poll.
The Flyers clinched the outright Atlantic 10 regular season championship Friday with an 82-67 win against Davidson at University of Dayton Arena.

Dayton finishes up the regular season this week with two more games. The Flyers travel to Rhode Island Wednesday for a 9 p.m. matchup with the Rams.
They conclude the regular season Saturday at home with at 7 p.m. game against George Washington.
Before the game, ESPN’s national pregame show College GameDay will air live from campus. The university and network have yet to announce the location where the show will broadcast from.
