DAYTON — Offseason roster movement for the Dayton Flyers began Tuesday with forward Mustapha Amzil announcing he intends to transfer.

Amzil posted a social media message around 5 p.m. Tuesday thanking Dayton fans and announcing his intention to enter the transfer portal.
“Thank you to the amazing fans and the community of Dayton that have cheered me on during my time here and providing me with a home that will always hold a special place in my heart. I will cherish all the memories and relationships I’ve built during my time here,” Amzil said in the post.
“I will continue chasing my dreams and goals by entering my name into the transfer portal.”
The Helsinki, Finland native spent three years in Dayton after joining the team midway through the 2020-21 season. Amzil was immediately entered into the starting lineup and won multiple Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week awards and averaged around 10 points per game.

Amzil’s time in a Dayton uniform will be most remembered for the game-winning shot over eventual national champion Kansas at the 2021 ESPN Events Invitational in Orlando.

In his final season at Dayton Amzil played in all 34 games and started in 19 of those games, finishing third on the team in scoring at around nine points per game. He was among the team leaders in free throw percentage and rebounds.
