Excitement builds as Centerville boys basketball heads to state tournament for first time

CENTERVILLE — After winning their first regional championship, the Centerville boys basketball team will be making their first state tournament appearance in program history.

Centerville Athletic Director Rob Dement said that after a year of the pandemic sidelining sports, the regional championship game was even more exciting.

“Under normal circumstances it was just an incredible basketball game. But given where we’ve been the last year. And luckily Tommy [House] was able to knock down that shot at the end. Just a fun night as you can imagine,” Dement said.

1,300 fans will be able to be in attendance to watch Centerville take undefeated Mentor at UD Arena. Dement said ticket demand has been intense, with Centerville’s 650 tickets selling out in under two hours.

Dement said the demand for tickets was extreme, but that it was fun for fans to be upset with him about tickets again.

Centerville takes on the Mentor Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
