No. 16 seed FDU upsets No. 1 seed Purdue; 2nd time in history

DAYTON — The no. 16 seed FDU Knights upset no. 1 seed Purdue Boilermakers Friday night, 63-58, in Columbus. The Boilermakers were the no. 1 seed in the East Region.

This marks the second time in NCAA Tournament history that a no. 16 seed has knocked off a no. 1 seed. The first time was back in 2018 when UMBC beat Virginia.

Sean Moore led the Knights with 19 points while Demetre Roberts added 12 and Cameron Tweedy scored 10 points.

The Boilermakers made 19 of 53 shots, including 5-26 from three-point range.

This is FDU’s second win of the 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

They beat Texas Southern, 84-61, Wednesday night at the First Four at UD Arena in Dayton.

The Knights will play the winner of FAU on Sunday in the Second Round at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.

The winner of that game will advance to the East Regional semifinals in New York.
