Noel’s double-double helps advance Wright State to Horizon League Quarterfinals

DAYTON — Brandon Noel’s 11th double-double of the season helped the Wright State Raiders to a 77-57 win over Green Bay in the First Round of the 2023 Horizon League Championship.

It’s the third time WSU beat Green Bay this season as they improve to 18-14 this season.

Noel led the Raiders with 20 points and 16 rebounds as the team made just less than 52% of their shots for the game, including 59% in the second half.

Trey Calvin added 14 points while Tim Finke had 13 points and seven assists.

Wright State trailed Green Bay, 12-9, with 14:10 left in the first half but went on a 9-2 run to take a 18-14 lead with 10:52 to go until halftime.

Alex Huibregtse made back-to-back three pointers to help the Raiders to a 35-27 halftime lead.

Clarence Cummings scored to get Green Bay within seven, 52-45, with 12:46 left but the Raiders outscored the Phoenix, 12-5 to lead, 64-50, and never looked back.

Wright State will play at the No. 2 seed Milwaukee Thursday night at 8 p.m. in the Horizon League Quarterfinals.

The Raiders won both regular season matchups. They won the first game, 78-74 in overtime on January 14 in Milwaukee and the second game, 93-86, at the Nutter Center on January 28.

The winner advances to the Horizon League semifinals on March 7 in Indianapolis.
