Point guard from Minnesota picks Dayton Flyers

The Dayton Flyers picked up their third verbal commitment from a member of the class of 2017 Tuesday. Point guard McKinley Wright, of Champlin Park, Minn., announced his decision at a press conference at Champlin Park High School, pulling on a UD hat as he made his pick.

Wright made his pick at a joint press conference with Champlin Park teammate Theo John, a 6-foot-9 forward who picked Marquette.

Wright’s decision came down to Dayton or Minnesota. Champlin Park is about 20 miles from Minnesota’s campus in Minneapolis.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Wright is a three-star recruit, according to 247Sports.com. He ranks 230th in the nation among all players in the class of 2017 and 48th among point guards.

Wright led Champlin Park with 19.7 points per game last season. He averaged 5.8 assists and 8.3 rebounds.

Wright paid an official visit to Dayton last weekend and was on Minnesota’s campus the weekend before that. He was also considering Memphis, Xavier and Iowa State earlier in the process.

In recent weeks, the Flyers have picked up verbal commitments from 6-4 guard Jordan Davis and 6-11 forward/center Jordan Pierce.
