CANTON — New Bremen High School won the Division VII state high school football championship for the second time in three years Saturday afternoon beating John F. Kennedy High School, 38-6, at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton.

The Cardinals rushed for an OHSAA Division VII title game record, 287 yards rushing. Quarterback David Homan ran for 234 yards and four touchdowns.

Homan also had over 300 yards of total offense, including 77 yards in the air.

New Bremen jumped to a 7-0 lead and Homan’s 67-yard touchdown run expanded it to 14-0.

The Eagles’ only touchdown came when they took the second half kickoff and drove 65 yards in 10 plays and cut it to 24-6. Homan scored two third quarter touchdowns to end any hopes of an Eagle comeback.

New Bremen ends the season with a 13-3 record.
