Trey Calvin helps lead Wright State comeback over Detroit

DAYTON — The Wright State overcame a 15 point deficit to come back and beat the Detroit Mercy Titans, 90-85, Friday night at the Nutter Center.

Trey Calvin led the Raiders with 27 points, including 21 in the second half. Andrew Welage’s jumper gave Wright State the lead for good, 82-81, with 2:12 remaining. The Raiders sealed the game making eight free throws.

Brandon Noel had double-double: 18 points and 17 rebounds while Amair Davis added 12.

Wright State improves to 9-7 overall, 2-3 in the Horizon League.

Detroit led, 48-40, at halftime and stretched the lead to as much as 15 points four different times in the second half, including 71-56 on a layup by Antoine Davis with 9:42 remaining.

The Raiders outscored the Titans, 17-2, over a stretch of over five and half minutes as Calvin’s jumper tied the game at 73-73 with 5:06 left.

Wright State took the lead twice on a layup by Calvin and three-pointer by Tim Finke to take a 78-75 advantage. Davis scored six straight points for Detroit to take an 81-80 lead.

Welage’s put the Raiders up for good, 82-81, and Finke added two free throws to give them an 84-81 lead with 1:45 to go.

Wright State made six more free throws, including four from Calvin to seal the game.

The Raiders will host Oakland Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
