Trey Calvin’s game winner at the buzzer helps Wright State beat Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY — The Wright State Raiders beat the Louisville Cardinals in thrilling fashion Saturday afternoon thanks to Trey Calvin.

His game winning jumper at the buzzer helped the Raiders beat the Cardinals, 73-72, at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Calvin led four players in double figures with 17 points. Brandon Noel added 13 while A.J. Braun and Alex Huibregtse each scored 10 points. Both Noel and Huibregtse grabbed six rebounds apiece.

After leading 37-34 at halftime, the Cardinals stretched the advantage to as much as 10 points in the second half. They led, 48-38, with 15:58 to play.

The Raiders kept fighting back and Calvin’s basket gave them a 65-64 advantage with 3:47 to play. But Louisville came back as El Ellis scored eight straight points as they led, 72-67, with 1:32 remaining.

Noel scored to get Wright State within three, 72-69, with 1:03 left. After a stop, Noel’s dunk got the Raiders within one, 72-71, with 12 seconds to play.

Wright State forced a jump ball and took possession with just over eight seconds left. They inbounded to Calvin and he buried a long jumper as time expired.

The Raiders improve to 1-1 on the season. They will host Bowling Green Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Nutter Center.
