Coach Grant says both Mali Smith and Kobe Smith out for ‘foreseeable future’

DAYTON — University of Dayton men’s basketball coach Anthony Grant said guards Malachi Smith and Kobe Elvis will each miss time after both suffered injuries in Dayton’s 79-75 loss to BYU Friday in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

“Both guys are out for the foreseeable future,” Grant told the voice of the Flyers, Larry Hansgen, on WHIO Radio’s “The Flyer Insider” Monday night. “I don’t know anything in terms of the amount of time.”

Grant said both players are, “on crutches and unavailable at this time.”

He added the team has got to plan to be without both of them.

“Hopefully we’ll know more within the next few days,” Grant said.

Coach Grant also told Larry guard Koby Brea was expected to return to practice Monday. Brea did not make the Bahamas trip last week due to illness.

“Unless there is another setback, he will be available,” Grant said.
