ST. LOUIS, MO — The Dayton Flyers fell behind by as much as 10 points in the second half and had a chance to tie the game late but came up short in a 65-61 loss at Saint Louis Friday night.

DaRon Holmes and Mustapha Amzil each led UD with 13 points but they only made less than 37% of their shots, including 30% in the second half.
The Flyers jumped out to a 9-5 lead to start out and had a 25-24 advantage with 9:05 left in the first half. The Billikens scored seven straight points as they led 41-32 at halftime.
Dayton began the second half scoring seven unanswered points, including a three-pointer by Koby Brea to cut it to 41-39 with 17:58 left.
After a timeout, Saint Louis went on an 11-3 run to take a 52-42 lead with 12:14 to go.

UD got as close as two points but could not get any closer. They trailed, 63-61, with 23 seconds left. Toumani Camara missed a chance to tie and Saint Louis sealed the game with two free throws with 16 seconds left.
Holmes scored his 1,000th career point at Dayton on a layup early in the first half. He is the first true sophomore to reach the 1,000 point club at UD.
The Flyers end the regular season at 20-11 overall, 12-6 in the Atlantic 10.
Dayton will the no. 2 seed in next week’s Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Their first game will be Thursday at 5 p.m.
