Dayton Flyers suffer 2nd loss in as many days in Battle 4 Atlantis

PARADISE ISLAND, The Bahamas — The Dayton Flyers committed 17 turnovers which led to 22 points for the North Carolina State Wolfpack in a 76-64 loss in the consolation bracket of the 2022 Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis.

UD falls to 3-3 overall.

Toumani Camara led Dayton with 19 points and seven rebounds while DaRon Holmes II added 17.

The Flyers had no answer for Jarkel Joiner. He had a game-high 27 points for the Wolfpack. Dayton had played against Joiner the previous two years when he was a member of the Ole Miss Rebels.

UD jumped out to a 19-9 lead but the Wolfpack went on a 11-2 run to get within one point, 21-20 with 7:33 left in the first half.

NC State took the lead, 31-29, on a three-pointer by Terquavion Smith. The Flyers trailed, 36-32, at halftime.

Malachi Smith’s free throw gave a Dayton a 39-39 advantage after a technical foul on Terquavion Smith with 15:15 remaining. Joiner’s steal led to a Dusan Mahorcic slam to go up, 40-39. NC State never trailed again.

Joiner’s fastbreak layup capped a 17-0 run over a stretch of nearly four and half minutes put the Wolfpack up, 55-39. His three gave NC State their biggest lead of the game, 62-45, with 7:40 left.

The Flyers got as close as eight points, 72-64, after a Toumani Camara dunk with 1:46 to play but never got closer.

Dayton is back in action Friday afternoon against either Butler or BYU at 3:30 p.m.
