Dayton Football gets 700th win in program history

CLINTON, SC — The Dayton Flyers became the ninth school in FCS football to reach 700 wins after beating Presbyterian College, 52-28, Saturday afternoon in Clinton, South Carolina.

The Flyers improve to 7-2 overall, including 5-1 in the Pioneer Football League.

Running back Jake Chisholm rushed for 156 yards and four touchdowns. UD’s defense held the Blue Hose to minus nine yards rushing.

The Flyers jumped ahead early as Chisholm’s 10-yard touchdown catch capped an 11 play, 65 yard drive to start the game as they led, 7-0. Presbyterian responded as Nate Hayden threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Dominic Kibby to tie the game at 7-7.

Dayton answered as Chisholm’s two-yard touchdown run reclaimed the advantage, 14-7. Ty Stylski blocked a Blue Hose punt and Alex Hirschfield ran 16-yards for his first touchdown as a Flyer to increase it to 21-7 after one quarter.

Chisholm scored his third touchdown of the half with a seven-yard run to extend it to 28-7. Drew Robertson forced a fumble on a sack and Joe Durham recovered at Presbyterian’s 19-yard line. Michael Neel’s eight-yard touchdown run expanded it to 35-7. Right before the half, Tyler Wesley hit Kibby for a 63-yard touchdown to cut UD’s lead to 35-14 at halftime.

The Blue Hose got closer to start the third quarter when A.J. Seay intercepted Shane Hamm’s pass and returned it 76-yards for a touchdown to cut it 35-21. But they never got closer as Sam Webster added a 28-yard field and Chisholm’s three-yard touchdown run increased it to 45-21, after three quarters.

Prebyterian got one more score when Kibby caught his third touchdown of day from 31-yards to cut it to 45-28. Hamm capped the scoring with a 47-yard touchdown run.

The Flyer defense had six sacks and two turnovers.

Dayton’s next game will be Saturday, November 12, when they host Morehead State at Welcome Stadium.

It will also be Senior Day and the Lt. Andy Zulli Memorial Award will be presented to a member of the senior class.
