Centerville, Ohio — It was quite a way to kick off the soccer season Friday night. The Centerville girls hosting Alter in a southtown showdown.
If you’re a fan of defense, this was a game for you. A battle of sophomore goalkeepers as Kassidy Roshong of Alter went save for save with Centerville’s Michelle Huelsman. Both teams had scoring chances turned away and the first half ended just like it started with zeros on the scoreboard.
Alter grabbed the momentum right out of the break. The Knights caught Huelsman out of position and Nicoletta Anuci lifted it up and over the keeper for a 1-0 Alter lead in the 43rd minute.
It stayed that was until Centerville took advantage of a defensive miscue by Alter and senior Sidney Kemp booted home the tying goal into an open net in the 66th minute.
The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Centerville is at Troy on Monday while Alter has a home match against Indian Hill.
