Monday morning, gas prices averaged around $2.85 per gallon. By this afternoon, multiple stations across the region had put their price up 30 cents to $3.15 per gallon, with the projected average expected to be around that price point, according to the website.

A potential explanation for the price jump Monday wasn’t immediately known. A spokesperson for motorist group AAA said the agency wasn’t immediately aware of any big price increases locally, but noted the Miami Valley is known for being one of the most volatile regions in the country for prices.

The reason for that volatility in the region specifically wasn’t known, however the AAA spokesperson noted the trend has been around for years.

If the average does climb above $3 locally, it would be around or above than the national average, according to Gas Buddy. As of Monday, the national average for a gallon of gas is around $3.05.

We’ll continue to update this story as new details become available.
