YELLOW SPRINGS — Roadwork to repair a significant broken water main will close a portion of Dayton Street in Yellow Springs starting Monday.

Traffic will not be permitted on Dayton Street between Wright Street and East Enon Road starting at 8 a.m. through at least Tuesday while repairs are made, a village spokesperson said in a social media post.

The length of the closure could be extended depending on the extent damage caused by water.
“We have discovered a main leak at Dayton St and Kenneth Hamilton, that requires a urgent repair. This leak is about 114,000 gallons per day. Our water plant produces around 400,000 gallons per day,” Village Manager Josue Salmeron said in the post.

The repair work will also block access to Kenneth Hamilton Way and residents living on that street were notified by hand-delivered instructions on where to park and how to access their homes, the village spokesperson said.
Detour signs have been posted and will reroute traffic onto East Enon Road, West South College Street, and Wright Street.
