Drought continues to plague the Miami Valley this October.
An abnormally dry summer and fall is not only creating problems for your grass, it is creating extra work for area firefighters.
This week on Cloudy with a Chance of Podcast, meteorologists McCall Vrydaghs and Kirstie Zontini sit down with Sugarcreek Twp. Fire Chief Jeff Leaming to discuss the challenges his firefighters face dealing with fire and drought.
>>Winter Outlook: Big swings in temperatures, precipitation
Leaming opens up about what leads to brush and field fires and how his team is using different techniques to fight them. He said this year for farmers is one of the driest he can remember. The dry corn and soybean crops makes the ability for fire to start quickly and spread fast a real problem.
Kirstie and McCall talk to Jeff about what homeowners can do to prevent fires this fall and how a homeowner can safely prepare for winter.
