Remnants of Gordon have been slowly pushing northward from the Gulf of Mexico, bringing soaking rain along its journey.

Now, the system is expected to link up with a stalled frontal boundary over the region this weekend. This interaction could lead to flash flooding.

“We will have to pay close attention to where the front is located once the remnants of Gordon arrive,” Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said Thursday night. “Right now, most of our forecast models show the heaviest rain likely to fall near the I-70 corridor between Friday night and Sunday afternoon.”

By Monday morning 3 to 5 inches of rain will be possible with some spots a little higher. The rain totals will build, but round after round will be able to add up by the end of the weekend.

“That much rain could lead to some serious issues in flood-prone areas,” he said.

There also are numerous festivals scheduled over the weekend including Springboro's Oktoberfest, Beavercreek's Popcorn Festival and the Dayton Greek Festival that could all be affected by this weekend’s rain.

"It will probably be a good idea to keep a close eye on the WHIO Weather App  over the weekend to stay ahead of the rain and monitor for any potential warnings," Elwell said. Despite the heavy rain threat, severe storms are not expected.
